Can someone who owns a JD4410 tell me what ground clearance I can expect with R1 12.4 x 24 tires mounted?
This is not speced out in the brochures or WEB site. Also I have read some posts that there have been problems with heavy brush ripping out wiring under the chassis and some have recommended installing the sheilds available.

It's my belief that the wiring problem is caused by poor manufacturer QC or dealer prep. I crawled under my 4310 (basically the same as the 4410 except 3 less hp) and the wires were all tied up pretty well, but others have reported that theirs were not. It's an easy fix with a few nylon zip ties, and something you'd want to do regardless of available ground clearance. Once they're tucked out of the way tearing them out would be a freak event IMHO. I've bush hogged some very heavy and tall stuff, vine maples and scotch broom, and never had a problem. ....

Thanks Kwschum, I will definetly do that. But do you know what my ground clearance would be with the R1s? I also noticed that the hydraulic lines going to the steering might get snagged on something. Does the sheild kit cover this? ....

I've got the 12.4-24 R1s so I went out and measured. The lowest ground clearance is about 9.5" at the front steering knuckles. The lowest clearance at the rear driveline is about 13", and the wires are all tied up at about 18" (above the driveline). I think it's unlikely that the steering hoses will have a problem - when you go forward they are well protected by the front axle and steering linkage, and going in reverse if they contact brush they will be pushed against the steering mechanism and are unlikely to tear out. ....

To answer your other question, I don't think the skid plate kit will protect the steering hoses in the front. From pictures I've seen, the skid plate basically protects the area under the operator platform. I don't think the steering hoses are at much risk of damage. ....

I found a JD part # for a guard kit that protects these areas. It cost about $330. When I find it, I'll post the part #. I have the R-4 tires on my 4410 which are not as tall as the R-1 tires. I have checked underneith my tractor and saw no unsecured lines or wires. I have not done any heavy duty brush hogging either so I really could not comment much on how problem prone they are in this area. ....

Thanks kwschum and Chief for your help. I concern regarding the underbelly is that I plan on doing some work in cutover woods where there is considerable trash and stumps. By the way how does that 430 loader perform? Is it strong enough to lift a full bucket of wet dirt? ....

I have picked up and carried a large buck stove with the 430 FEL. It picked it up like it was nothing. I don't think there is much if any problem of insuffient power with this FEL. A bucket of wet dirt would not come close to approaching its limits in my opinion. I find my 430 FEL is very fast and responsive. I am VERY happy with it. ....

FWIW, I do a lot of work in the woods too and the skid plates are a good idea. But somehow I manage to do without and haven't had any trouble. Here is what I know about the skid plates. They are very robust and bolt into existing mounting holes in the frame without compromising ground clearance. It isn't too difficult to change the eHydro suction filter with them in place. They are available only as part of the "Rental Upgrade Kit". This kit includes stuff you may not want to install, like a C range lockout or a backup alarm. Somehow for me the plates never percolate to the top of the priority list, but if I was buying again I'd negotiate them in as part of the package. ....
